Politicians — More Deadly Than Soldiers
The sound of clashing steel echoes through the dense forest
As legionaries marched in square formations.
There spears held up and their shields out front.
Their shiny armor glistens in the afternoon sun.
It is a cold fall day in the forests of Gaul
As clouds of foggy breath rise into the air.
A hard long shout from a barbarian warrior
Fills the air with a wild earthly magic.
The soldiers in red cloaks and golden helmets
Filled with horse hair plumes
Form into a living tortoise.
Protected from any attack.
The air fills with thousands of arrows
Screaming toward their targets like
Oversized angry bees.
Savage warriors in bear hide clothing
Charge with unchecked brutality.
They slam against the large square shields
And wrestle with futility.
Caesar stands in the rear, directing his forces
As a shaggy Gaul who towered over the Romans
Raced toward the short little general.
The legion closes and protects their beloved
Leader from any harm.
Breaking the barbarian under spears and shields
Protecting the future emperor from any soldier.
And yet Caesar’s life was ended prematurely.
Because Politicians are more deadly than Soldiers
